Free 4th of July Fireworks in & around LA 2013

fireworks-2013Nothing brings to mind the 4th of July in Southern California like big fireworks sprinkling bright lights all over the night sky over a horizon of palm trees. Bring on the fireworks! The following is a guide to the various FREE 4th of July fireworks and celebrations around LA. Check out the newly revamped and awesomer BrokeLA calendar for more information about these firework shows and parades. Enjoy the fun!

4th of July Firework Extravaganza @ Exposition Park
The annual 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza returns to the Coliseum and is totally viewable for FREE at the great lawn of Exposition Park! This 60 minute show (that's like three times as long as most other fireworks shows) will take place in Exposition Park starting at full darkness. The best seating areas are at Christmas Tree Lane, and the South Lawn, adjacent to the Natural History Museum.

4th of July Block Party @ Grand Park
Experience the 4th in a whole new way! Pack your family and friends, puppies and picnics and head to Grand Park to see Downtown LA light up in a spectacle not to be missed! Picnicking, live music sets, food trucks and fun - and of course after sunset, experience a distinctively different light show spectacle with ground-based pyrotechnics and light projections (up-in-the-sky fireworks and DTLA office buildings don't mix). Head over for a grand time at DTLA's Grand Park!

Westside and Beaches

4th of July Jazz on the Hill @ Baldwin Hills
Celebrate the 4th of July with some jazz and blues, and great food! Councilmember Bernard C. Parks and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs invite you to the Annual 4th of July "Jazz on the Hill" Festival. This fun holiday celebration kicks off with a free jazz concert in the Norman O. Houston Park, and fireworks start at dusk.

Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular @ Cabrillo Beach 
The 63nd Annual Cabrillo Beach July 4th Fireworks Spectacular kicks off with the Food Truck Festival at 2pm and ends with a fantastic fireworks display at 9pm. With great food and fireworks you'll have an awesome Independence Day celebration - all for free!

4th of July Fireworks Celebration @ Marina Del Rey
Celebrate Independence Day in the marina! There will be a twenty-minute pyrotechinic fireworks display presented by the famed Zambelli Fireworks Internationale with synchronized music which will play throughout Burton Chace Park (or on KXLU 88.9FM). The show begins with lively movement and color, intensifying to an explosive skyline display, mirrored by the water below. The event is sponsored by Los Angeles County Department of Beaches & Harbors and a host of community supporters. Early arrival is strongly suggested; ample paid parking. See street closure updates. Marina Beach Shuttle & WaterBus will operate with special conditions.


San Fernando Valley

4th of July Spectacular @ Shepherd of the Hills Church 
Join thousands in celebrating Independence day at the Annual 15th Fourth of July Spectacular at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch. At this free, family-friendly event we welcome the entire community to celebrate our great nation. Enjoy the day and be sure not to miss the 21-minute fireworks finale just after sundown. With over 60,000 people in attendance last year, they hope to see you there as we celebrate our nation's freedom together.

Independence Day Celebration @ Hansen Dam 
4th of July Celebration at Hansen Dam will be lots of fun. This holiday celebration in the San Fernando Valley will feature music and other live entertainment, food, and fireworks. Booths offer information about safety, health, community resources, and more. Take a swim in the 1.5-acre swim lake available for use during the day. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic. Come for the entertainment, stay for the free fireworks starting at 8:30pm!

July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza @ Warner Park
The West Valley hosts this huge Fourth of July fireworks festival with food vendors, play zone, a free concert and fireworks show. The concert begins at 6:00 - 8:00 pm, with fireworks to live music at 9:08 pm. Featuring the 110-piece Los Angeles Pierce Symphonic Winds! Lead by Steve Piazza and comprised of semi-professional musicians and talented music educators. They are one of the most nationally recognized and critically acclaimed community bands in the United States.

4th of July Fireworks Show in Santa Clarita
The free fireworks spectacular begins at approximately 9pm at the Valencia Town Center (24201 West Valencia Blvd., Valencia, CA 91355). While you're watching the magnificent fireworks show, listen to the live broadcast of the soundtrack on KHTS AM 1220. More info: (661) 250-3787.

San Gabriel Valley

July 4th Celebration @ Barnes Park 
"America, We Love You" is the theme for this year's spectacular Independence Day celebration at Barnes Park. Happy birthday America! Bring out that lawn chair, picnic basket, ice chest and invite the family to Barnes Park on July Fourth. Monterey Park's annual U.S. Independence Day celebration will feature live entertainment, delicious food, activities for the entire family and the annual spectacular fireworks show. Residents are invited to spend a festive day at the park filled with food, fun and the nighttime firework show. Kids can enjoy an afternoon of arts, crafts and games. The fabulous fireworks spectacular is scheduled for 9 p.m. Musical entertainment and the fireworks show are free.

Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular in Alhambra
The festivities begin at noon with the opening of food booths and a "penny carnival," followed by live entertainment at 7:30pm featuring Surfin' Safari, (the ultimate Beach Boys Tribute Band) and culminating at 9 p.m. with the longest fireworks display in Alhambra history – a full colorful, explosive 26 minutes! The event takes place at Almansor Park at 800 S. Almansor St., Alhambra, CA 91801. See the show from anywhere in the park. South & East LA

Let Freedom Ring Celebration @ Cerritos Civic Center
Join the City of Cerritos and the Let Freedom Ring Committee at the 40th Annual Let Freedom Ring Celebration at the Cerritos Civic Center, which includes food and game booths sponsored by local community organizations, rides, entertainment and a bell-ringing ceremony. The evening will culminate with a fireworks show at Cerritos High School at 9pm. Please bring chairs and blankets for seating in designated areas. 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks Show in Huntington Park
Celebrate 4th of July with a fun-filled day at the park beginning at noon, and highlighted by the annual fireworks show at 9pm. The celebration includes a carnival beginning at 2pm with rides, inflatables, picnic games, pie eating contest, food, entertainment and more. Fireworks and Carnival @ South Gate Park
Carnival begins at 5pm with rides and food at Tweedy Blvd. and Hildreth Ave. and runs through entire Sunday. The Dazzling Fireworks Display is at 9 pm. South Gate Park is located at 9615 Pinehurst Ave, South Gate, CA 90280. More info: (323) 563-5479.

Orange County

4th of July Festival & Fireworks Show @ Fullerton
Come out to Fullerton High School Stadium, at the corner of Lemon and Berkeley, for a rollicking good time on the 4th of July! Entertainment! Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. and last for approximately 20 minutes. There will be live music and additional entertainment. Nominal fees may apply for activities (Approximately $2 to $4.) Food is available for purchase in the festival area. There is no alcoholic beverage service. All food is reasonably priced, and is being offered by local charity organizations as a fundraising activity.

Fireworks Over the Ocean @ Huntington Beach
Join the celebration at Huntington Beach with their annual 4th of July fireworks! This year's theme: Surf, Sun & Celebrate. The festival features food vendors, live entertainment, family activities and plenty of surf and sand!
This year's fireworks 23-minute spectacular, with a total of 1,300 rounds of fireworks - 500 of them during the finale in the last 40 seconds of the show - is expected to attract around 300,000 onlookers. Don't forget to start the day off right by watching the Surf City 5k! (Participate if you want, but it'll cost you some cash.)

Ventura County

Simi Valley 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza
Free festivities begin at 2pm and last until 10pm, with many activities that will entertain the entire family. Bring your family and friends, and don't forget your lawn chairs and blankets. Come share your Independence Day with us and enjoy a fun-filled day with live music, children's play areas, and great food, all culminating with a spectacular fireworks display. Let Freedom Ring July 4th Fireworks Spectacular in Thousand Oaks
Festivities begin at 5pm with live music from Led ZepAgain and live DJs, bounce house, face painting, balloon twister, and food. Fireworks start at 9pm. Located at Janss Marketplace, 275 N Moorpark Rd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. More info: (805) 381-1247

Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Parade
65th Annual Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Parade is definitely the way to celebrate this year's Independence Day! The highlight of every July Fourth is the Pacific Palisades parade, which has grown to be one of the top Independence Day parades in the entire U.S.A. Come join your neighbors and enjoy the best bands and equestrian units in the country, marching along side our very own community groups, local celebrities, neighbors and kids. The skydivers drop at 1:50pm and the parade begins at 2:00pm. The parade runs along Sunset Blvd. between Via de la Paz and Drummond. See the map of the parade below.

Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach @ Venice Beach
If you're a gym junkie or fitness buff, join the rest at the annual Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach in celebration of Independence Day. Held on July 4, the 2013 Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach takes place on Ocean Front Walk, between Navy Street and Washington Boulevard in Venice, CA. Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach features men and women amateur athletes competing in a muscle and fitness competition. Categories include figure, bodybuilding, women's physique, and men's physique. Admission to Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach in 2013 is free and all are welcome!

4th of July Street Fair @ Downtown Ventura 
Celebrate the 38th annual 4th of July Street Fair with this year's theme of "Ventura City Hall Centennial 1913-2013"! The popular 4th of July Street Fair on Thursday, July 4, 2013, extends along Main Street from Fir Street to Ventura Avenue as well as side streets Chestnut, Oak and California interspersed with entertainment and free shuttle bus service from the Ventura County Government Center to the Street Fair. Held on our nation's birthday, this popular annual event attracts up to 50,000 people to Downtown Ventura.

Gleaming at Twilight! @ CAAM
Celebrate America's birthday "CAAM Style" with a special live program. The Museum itself is open 11am - 5pm today and then the hours extend for a special live program from 6pm-8:30pm on CAAM's outdoor plaza stage! It's the perfect intro to the Expo Park annual fireworks display and even the perfect seat! Featured performers include Judith Hill (from The Voice), musician Ryan Cross, singer C.J. Emmons, Broadway performer Crystal Starr Knighton, Latin star Ileana Garcia, and actor Malachi Cohen. Hosted by Nita Whitaker LaFontaine and Jeffrey Anderson Gunter.
